Peacock Turtle Night Tours – Marakolliya Beach, Sri Lanka
Peacock Turtle Night Tours is a locally owned guiding service based on Marakolliya Beach, Tangalle, Sri Lanka. The tours are led by Saman Kalinga, an experienced local guide who has been protecting and observing sea turtles on this beach for over 16 years.
Every night during the nesting season, visitors are invited to join a guided walk along the beach to witness one of nature’s most remarkable events – wild sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. Marakolliya Beach is home to five different species of sea turtles, making it one of the most important nesting areas in southern Sri Lanka. The main nesting season runs from December to May/June.
All tours are conducted with deep respect for wildlife and international conservation guidelines. Only red light is used, as white light can disturb and disorient nesting turtles. This ensures a safe, ethical and authentic wildlife experience without harming the animals.
